About
Mateo Estrella-Durán, is presently a Humphrey Fellow and he focuses his studies in Higher Education Administration during his stay at Penn State University in 2010-2011. He has a degree in law and another in tourist administration. He joined the University of Cuenca in 2004 and since then he has served the Hospitality Department. He is the current Dean with major academic and administrative responsibilities. He teaches courses in “tourism & law” and “touristic management”.
Mr. Estrella-Durán is the Vice-president of the Ibero American Society of Tourism & Law. He is a former Vice Minister of Tourism of his country (2000 – 2003), and he has worked in many positions in public and private organizations. He is the co-author of some books related to tourism & law, local based tourism, competitiveness, and gastronomy. He has conducted important specialized consulting projects of tourism in his country and abroad, focusing on strategic planning and tourism management destinations. He has actively worked in different academic research projects of wich the most recent was the Development of the Inca Trail in southern Andes of Ecuador (2009).
